Debra Coppinger Hill lives in rural Rogers Co. Oklahoma, just north of Chelsea
on the border of Catale. She is the ranch manager for the family operation, the
4DH Ranch, where they raise Cutting and Ranch Bred Horses, hay and Brahman
cross cattle.  She draws from her daily experiences, giving her writing a "been
there, done that" quality that people identify with.  Her column "
Ridin’
Drag" is featured exclusively on the internet here at CnC , telling stories about
her life on the ranch, as well as stories about Western History & culture, events ,
family and friends.

Her love of Western Literature and writing was fostered by her Grandparents and
Great Grand parents. From them she learned the tales of Texas, being a Cowboy
and the stories of the Cherokees. She also attributes her love of stories of the past
to the rest of her family, who all love to tell and re-tell family and Indian lore.

Debra’s writing includes Cowboy Poetry and Western song lyrics for various
performers. Her signature piece, "Yellow Slicker" (music by Kevin Davis) has
been recorded by Jean Prescott and Tim Graham.  It appears on her latest album
"Common Sense, Men and Horses" along with "Stir the Campfire" and "The
Money for Her Diamond" .  Also featured on this album is Jerry Warren’s
heartfelt rendition of "Jake" and "Wild Stickhorse Remuda" sung by Devon
Dawson (The voice of Cowgirl Jesse on Disney’s Toy Story II music CD).
Debra’s work is available at on line at
SilverCreek Cowboy.

Her work is included in several books; "Cowboy’s are Part Human" (by
Southwest Whispers) and the Gibbs-Smith Elko Companion book "Cowgirl
Poetry, One Hundred Years of Riding and Rhyming" and appears in "The Big
Roundup" from
CowboyPoetry.com. She is featured among the Honored Guests
of
Omar West’s Bar-D, a site featuring the best in Traditional and
Contemporary Cowboy Poetry.   She has also had pieces appear in American
Cowboy and Canadian Cowboy Country. Recently Debra’s poem "Listen"
was featured in "Kudzu Murders", a Jesse Statham Mystery Series book by
Jeannie Sutton Hogue. She and Doc Stovall have a book coming out this
summer. "If Trails Could Talk" will feature Cowboy Poetry and short stories;
with illustrations by D.Enise.

Debra has been honored by the Academy of Western Artists,
with nominations in several categories 6 years in a row.  For 2003 she has
nominations in 7 categories for her Cowboy Poetry, western song lyrics and
performances.

In 2002, she recieved the AWA "
Cowgirl Poet of the Year Award"!

Her song,"Yellow Slicker" (with music by Kevin Davis) was  placed in the AWA's
Top Ten Western Song of the Year.
Her first album "Cattle Calls..." was placed on the AWA Top Five Best Cowboy
Poetry Albums list.

She is the Southwest Nighthawks Western Poet of the Year for 2001.

Debra is also a regular live guest on "
Keepin’ It Cowboy" with Jo Hargrave,
of
KJON. Anadarko, OK.

She has appeared in several television series including Tales of the Trail and the
PBS series Cowboy Corral.

Debra also hosts her own television and western video series "Love of the West",
which is gaining popularity across North America.

"Love Of The West",  is working in association with Cowboys-n-Cowgirls.com
and Stonecross Productions to bring the intergrity of our western heritage to the
public through the sharing of western life, in interviews with western Artist's,
Poets and Musician whose arts are an extention of the Western lives they live.

Debra performs at public and private functions across the U.S. and Canada, often
with one of her COPAS, Outrider or Nighthawk partners, Jerry Warren, Jay
Snider, Kevin Davis, Tim Graham, Casey Allen or Jen from CnC. She and her
associates present an educational program (that features the Buckaroo Puppets)
for schools and children’s groups that has a Western theme and an anti-
drug/alcohol message.

Having lived in various parts of the country before returning to Oklahoma, Debra
has found most people will respond to a piece of writing if it reminds them of
home or family. She believes all families should share their histories. "Because in
looking back , we can see more clearly where to go. A common history is what
defines family and country. After-all, we make the world we live in. For good
things to survive, we have to take on the responsibility of promoting their positive
aspects. It is our duty and our sacred trust."
