"Real"

What is it about a "Cowboy" that is so admired
Or a Cowgirl ,
or anyone else
with what ever the Title ?

And who is to say,, "who is who"?
Who is for real, or  pretend?
And "what" difference does it make?
We feel the same feelings, bleed the same blood.

Were all here together we all seek the same things,
Love and acceptance, and to follow our dreams.

We share the same sky
The same stars in the night.
We are all "real" , both you and I.
We all have our dreams, and about the same time.

Some are more fortunate ,,
born to the right place, born the right time,
born to the "right" neck of the woods.

As for any "Title, that's just a "word"
it's the person inside, that is to be admired.
It's what they stand for, how they live life.

It's not in  the shinny new rig with the flashy gooseneck,
Though I would want one of those, someday, for myself
It's the heart and the soul,  the lives that they lead.,
It' s the actions you see, it's not in the words.

Its the way she rode her ride that night,
She turned those barrels and did it with pride,
Its what she did next that caught my eye.

On the third barrel turn,
where her horse was "just" off,
the horse missed a stride,
he came up just short.

She could have finished running her race
Her time was good, she still had a chance;

She knew she could win.
If she continuted her run,
She made her choice, without hesitation
What she did next, is what I admired.

She reined in that horse,
And she, stopped him right there;

The 3rd barrel turn,
She did a dismount,
she checked on his leg and checked on his hoof
she then set it down, gave him a pat,
she gathered the reins, and  then  lead him right  out..

She did what was best not for herself,
What she did that night , was best for her horse;
And what could have been seen as a loss for the night,
And not just the cost of the race, or the cost to the horse,

It would have cost "her"..
Not having done the right thing;
To know that the horse,
and herself were together a team;

You work "together" ,,
not to each all there own;
When a team is in unison,
with respect and concern
The two become one,  a magic is born.

As magic was witnessed by all there that night
The ones who dream,  or live the life
She gave a gift, by saving her horse,
She showed integrity and honor
not one selfish bone.

I admire that girl for what I witnessed that night
"that" is what "real" is all about!!

This Poem was written as a result of watching  tears fall on the faces of children or, watching them "hold them back"  From
wanting a horse of their own, or to be able to "Play" those drums.  What ever the source of their hearts desire, and not being able
to participate in what ever it is.
Inspired to by the Courage and Heartache  that I have witnessed in those that  have held onto,  and when they became adults,
attempting to live out those childhood dreams.  It takes courage, pain, and sacrifice for some.
Because they weren't born there.
To walk into a new and unknown world  full of hopes and ideas of fulfillment built on a life time of "Dreaming" .. I applaud
those that can "Try".. So please lend a hand when you get the chance, were all here together, and that's reason enough
We are all I am sure doing the best that we can , and striving and working  to be the best we can be.
The story about the girl running her race is a "True" story.
