Awhile back American Cowboy asked for ideas on why America needs the cowboy. I wrote this poem
and sent it to them. I don't believe we really realize what an impact the cowboy has had on this
country. If it weren't for the cowboy we may not even have a free country today. People complain
about citizens with guns but if the cowboy hadn't had a gun he would not have survived in this
country. This statement has nothing to do with shooting each other. The cowboy used his gun for food,
to defend his family and property from outlaws and wild animals, and more than one story is recorded
about a cowboy getting hung up and shooting his horse to save getting drug to death. Also, it is purty
obvious that if the American citizen hadn't been armed during some of our past conflicts we would be
speaking a different language in this country today. So the cowboy is part of the past, part of the
backbone, and part of the future of this great America. God bless it.
